They came. They saw. They conquered. The Katy Tigers locked in and steamrolled Cinco Ranch 56-3 in the 19-5A district championship game.
| Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | Final |
| Katy | 14 | 28 | 7 | 7 | 56 |
| Cinco Ranch | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
The pre-game hype built to a fever pitch given the close games contested in the previous two seasons, and the fact both were 9-0 going into this year's district meeting. Katy removed any tension in quick, methodical and ruthless fashion en route to a 42-3 half time lead.
The Katy offense set the tone by taking the game's opening kick and driving for a touchdown. Cinco Ranch had no answer for Katy's running game, and the opening drive signaled everything else to follow. The Tiger defense kept the Cougars' powerful running game in check while also eliminating the passing game. Katy intercepted more passes (3) than Cinco Ranch completed (2).
Tiger senior outside linebacker Brandon Ebrecht intercepted two passes, and senior safety Rykan Jones picked off the other. With the Katy defense dialed in to Cinco's running game, it was only a matter of time before the Katy offense widened the margin as they've done all season.
Katy used a 28 point second quarter rally to put the game beyond any lingering doubt. The Tigers outscored the Cougars 14-0 after the break as the first half essentially ended the contest from a competitive point of view. Katy finished with over 400 rushing yards and over 500 total.
Senior running back Donovonn Young broke Katy's single season rushing touchdown record with his second and final scoring run of the game. Young current tally of 28 rushing touchdowns tops the previous record shared by Aundre Dean (2006) and Bill Jatzlau (1994). Young and sophomore Adam Taylor combined for 372 rushing yards.
The Tiger defense held Cinco Ranch to overall production lows. Katy (10-0) will host Houston Bellaire at Rhodes Stadium next Saturday at 1 pm in the Division 1 Bi-District playoffs.
