The Mavericks have set numerous program records already for wins and overall production. Morton Ranch’s success is surprising because they changed coaches during the off-season. Scott Svendsen came to Morton Ranch from John Tyler. Svendsen was John Tyler’s offensive coordinator and also served as an assistant coach at Katy High School earlier this decade. The new coaching staff has made an instant impact from the newly designed uniforms to the game performances.

Senior quarterback Joe Mitchell and senior running back Michael Venson have transformed Morton Ranch into an explosive football team. The duo’s combined to score 18 of the offense’s 21 touchdowns. The Mavericks use a shotgun option offense to get the most out of Mitchell and Venson.

When the Mavericks pass, they are usually looking to stretch the field vertically to keep defenses from getting too comfortable in the box. Venson is the team’s leading rusher and receiver. Morton Ranch keeps people honest by passing to speedy receivers.

The Maverick defense is allowing 23.2 points a game. Morton Ranch has allowed at least 20 points in each of their games. This hasn’t been a problem so far because the offense has managed to outscore everyone.

Morton Ranch’s run defense has been better than its pass defense so far. The Mavericks have allowed multiple passing touchdowns in four of their five games. The Mavs haven’t allowed a 100 yard rusher yet this season. 11 of the 16 touchdowns allowed by the Mav defense have come through the air.

Morton Ranch has won six games in a row dating back to the last regular season game of 2007.
