Mayde Creek Post-Game

Tigers win 42-7. Mayde Creek scored a consolation late in the game. 28-0 Katy at half.

Mayde Creek ran a straight up T offense for the entire game. It was triple option based straight T and not the same thing Bellevue ran. It'd be interesting to see when Katy last faced a T offense. I'm guessing 20 or 30 years at least.

The Rams busted a long QB run on the first play of the game, and hit a long pass later on. Those two plays accounted for most of their offense. I'm surprised they actually stayed with that offense exclusively. I figured they'd use it as a wrinkle and then run their normal shotgun stuff.

It was really nice to see Young get a full game of action again. He showed some spectacular ability. Stock had three touchdown passes. I particularly liked the pass to the back of the end zone when he had to wait for things to open up, and also the streak route to Jones. The defense was very good overall and did a good job of playing assignment football.

Overall, this was a good tune-up for the Tigers. The next seven are playoff games.

Qb's- First drive looked very sharp. It seemed Creek came out to stop the run and Stock found Swanson the whole way down. There were two passes that really stuck out as wow to me. One was the throw to Jones in the endzone, and Haak touch pass in the flats, hit him in perfect stide right over the defender and into the bread basket. There was only two times that I saw a wrong read , One was the dropped int.

Rb- Jeffery was his same slippery self. Young looked very good breaking tackles left and right. I think he needs to learn a little patience on the stretch plays, but that will come in time. Protect that ball

WR. Made the plays you need to make, Swanson looked unstoppable out there. You had the Stratford coaches sitting behind me scared.

Ol -First half was alot of the same as last week, not enough time to throw. But the 2nd half was much better. Run blocking esp.

Defense- everybody did great. Fisher really stuck out, he was punishing the dive man.

Overall great bounce back game, Only gripe is OL needs to get healthy and start protecting that QB.

LT used a nice Earl Campbell-esque stiff arm on the far sidelines. As for Young- haven't seen that many spin moves since young Aundre Dean.

Was it Jake Dill that flipped in for the TD? Awesome play. I knew Swanson got the one in the back of the end zone earlier in the game.

Katy Tigers were just plain awesome.

They were pumped up and ready to play with great attitudes! :mrred:

The Band was blaring! They were on fire today. And they were loud.

Our side of the field was raucous. The first down chant even caught on on that side of the stands.

All is well in Tigerland.

Go Tigers! Beat Cinco!

The boys came out and took care of business. No screwing around! Period.

Both QB's looked good. All 3 RB's looked good. Both lines looked good. Pass catchers looked good. LB's looked good. DB's(did not have much to do) looked good. Special Teams looked good(Love Andrew Johnson on KO's!)

Agree w/62's post and wanted to add some. Fisher played outstanding, must have had 15+ tackles. Also, Jeffries 24 moved to DB, a pretty selfless move. He is team first all the way.

Defensive personnel question:

How much time did Vernon get at safety? Did Garzon play at OLB, or did we use Rose there? Could someone who attended the game tell me?

Vernon got his action at corner. Garzon has been playing DE, and Rose has been OLB the last few weeks.

Wow. I thought he had trained at safety over the spring...is that wrong? Did he split time at corner? I'm happy to see him play wherever.

Corner is a new thing as of this week. He worked at safety earlier this year and in the spring.

I'm just surprised that a guy would get moved this late, especially to corner. Very unusual and proactive. Hope it works out well.

It sounds like Katy has some new challenges now. No. 1, we have to solve pass protection issues. No. 2, We have to prove that our secondary can play with the new rotations.

This is going to get interesting!

Andrew Johnson (#2) is a gifted athlete and has a real nose for the ball. And did you notice, there were 0 personal fouls on Katy yesterday? Coaches had a serious heart-to heart with the guys.
