Lockers were a hassle, and always seemed to be a 7 minute round trip away, with 5 minutes between classes, and the frequent cause of a long walk home, having missed the bus after school, because of taking time to go there after class. The principal at the junior high school had a bolt cutter in his office, just for opening lockers that were unusually smelly. Anyone attempting to use a "book satchel" would typically find the satchel and books in a nearby drainage ditch and his pants flying from the school flagpole. There weren't any taped lines on the floor, but the Assistant Principal looked like a retired boxer and had holes drilled in the board he used to assess discipline.
My how things have changed.
